GACO – the Good Hope Arts and Culture Organisation is a PBO (Public Benefit Organisation) in Soweto. It was started by Ntokozo Madonsela. Ntokozo himself, is un- employed at this time and yet he has a driving desire to be of service in his community, hence the birth of GACO. GACO is a group of people prompted by a need to make positive change. One of GACO’S missions is to provide kids with after school activities so that they are not tempted to lean towards crime and drug dependency. Activities on offer are soccer, Drama and Dance.
How did we hear about GACO ?
Sally and Ntokozo met at Pat Flanagan’s ( Sallys Dad) 77th Birthday party. Ntokozo was a waiter at the celebration and in true friendly Sally style, she struck up a conversation with Ntokozo and he told her about his work with Gaco. To cut a long story short, Sally and Kathryn (Pat’s wife) headed off to Soweto a few weeks later to meet the GACO team and see what they were up to. It was at this meeting that they were able to determine GACO’S needs. They needed full soccer kit and balls for the Peacemaker Soccer Teams (U9, U11 & U15 a total of 75 kids) as well as performance clothes for the dance and drama students.
The F&G foundation, both sourced and paid for all the clothing and equipment and made delivery on Wednesday the seventh of May. It was indeed a happy day for all.
