Maluti Crescent

Maluti Crescent shopping centre is located in Phuthaditjhaba, once the capital of Qwa-Qwa. A thriving homeland, Phuthaditjhaba is now home to the Thabo Mofutsanyana District and Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality. This bustling town boasts a significant University of the Free State campus and numerous educational facilities and schools. The existing shopping centre takes the form of a 22,000m² strip mall, anchored by a SuperSpar and Game together with all five major banks and a very strong national fashion contingent. The centre is being expanded to a 34,000m² enclosed modern mall with double the current parking, a new taxi rank of 100 bays and a second food anchor, Pick ‘n Pay. The new Maluti Crescent Shopping Centre is well suited to serve as the dominant mall in the region.

Design

The current Maluti Crescent shopping centre will undergo an upgrade to marry the old and the new, making this a modern comparative shopping destination. Maluti Crescent is currently anchored by Game and Superspar. With the addition of a Pick n Pay Supermarket and an enlarged Woolworths, the national fashion offering will improve significantly. The expanded centre will be serviced by on-grade parking through 4 main entrances.

Location

Phuthaditjhaba, lies on the R712 between Harrismith and Clarens, in the Free State Province. Maluti Crescent Shopping Centre is positioned on the corner of Mampoi Road, the main arterial road in the area, and Motebang Road.

Accessibility

Maluti Crescent Shopping Centre has excellent accessibility and visibility off Mampoi and Motebang Road. The site will have two access points off Mampoi Road and one access point off Motebang Road.

Trade Area, Demographics and Economic Indicators

The nature of the local urban landscape allows for a single dominant mall. Maluti Crescent Shopping Centre will capture the entire regional mall shopper market, removing the need for local shoppers to venture as far as Bethlehem and Harrismith for second order goods.
