Flanagan & Gerard was proud to support Firlands Children’s Home, a sanctuary in Linden that cared for children from diverse backgrounds. With government funding covering less than 40% of its operational costs, Firlands relied heavily on community contributions to continue its essential work.

As part of our Mandela Day initiative on 16 July 2016, members of the Flanagan & Gerard team, along with their families, dedicated 67 minutes to the children of Firlands. We donated soccer balls and personalised gift packs to 22 children aged 4 to 16, shared homemade treats and cool drinks, and enjoyed a lively game of football. It was a deeply rewarding experience to bring joy to the children and engage with the caregivers shaping their futures.

Later that year, we partnered with Woolworths Morningside to contribute to Firlands’ annual fete on 27 August 2016. Flanagan & Gerard donated 288 muffins for the tea garden, while Woolworths provided 22 crates of food to be sold on the day. The event, which attracted over 6,000 attendees, raised vital funds for the home. Organised entirely by volunteers, the fete featured family entertainment including skydiving displays, Barney the dinosaur, line dancers, jumping castles, and a dog show by the Northcliff Alsatian and German Shepherd Club.

Firlands expressed heartfelt gratitude for the community’s support and confirmed that the 2016 fete was one of their most successful to date. Flanagan & Gerard was honoured to play a part in this memorable initiative.
