To celebrate 67 Minutes on Madiba Day, a few of us from Flanagan & Gerard and our families visited Firlands Children’s Home, in Linden on 16 July 2016. As a F & G initiative, we donated soccer balls and handed out gift packs to 22 children between the ages of 4 and 16. We also had an exciting game of football with all the kids before finishing the day handing out cool drinks, homemade cake and muffins.

Firlands is home to children from all walks of life, ages and race groups. With the State providing less than 40% towards running costs, Firlands relies heavily on donations and fund raising projects.

With 4 cottages located on the property, boys and girls are housed in separate cottages where they are split according to age groups. These homes are equipped with a dining kitchen, lounge/TV area and a communal bathroom, there is a great sense of pride as these homes are immaculately clean.

The opportunity to bring smiles to the faces of all the kids, and meeting the people who help shape these children’s lives, was truly a remarkable experience.

We look forward to similar events in the future, and reinforcing our partnership with Firlands Children’s Home.
